When we developed our nostalgic gaming app Stitches we hoped that it would get a few laughs and maybe even bring back a few memories. We never dreamed it could help in the efforts to protect little children and keep infants safe. But Applied Studios has been given such an opportunity by partnering with the International Anesthesia Research Society (IARS) to help them raise attention and funds for their SmartTots research initiative!
The IARS is a non-political medical society founded in 1922 to advance and support anesthesia research and education. The IARS contributes more than $1 million annually to fund anesthesia research and provides a forum for leaders in anesthesia research to share information and ideas. The Society publishes the Anesthesia & Analgesia journal in print and online.
SmartTots is a multi-year collaborative effort to increase the safety of anesthetic drugs for the millions of infants and children who undergo anesthesia each year. Early research suggests that some anesthetic drugs may be safer than others when administered to very young children, especially if they undergo multiple surgeries. SmartTots was launched to address the critical public health issues associated with the safe use of anesthesia and sedatives in young children and provide parents and doctors with the information they need when faced with such a dilemma.
To help with funding Applied Studios has agreed to donate 50% of each purchase of our game app Stitches to SmartTots! Stitches lets players take part in some of the most comical surgery ever performed. Players pinch and push a variety of slapstick objects in an attempt to extract them from the patient and restore him to good health. Later, as the players’ skills increase, they are increasingly challenged by having to perform surgery under some of the worst conditions imaginable, both environmental and self-inflicted!
